About Me
Chris Howard has been playing the game of tennis since the age of 12 and at the age of 14 was out teaching juniors at the local high school in Newark, Ohio. So for the last 49 years he’s had a love affair with this very special game in an instructional, playing, managing and ownership capacity.
As a junior he played sanctioned tournament tennis obtaining a #1 ranking in the South-central region in Ohio in the 14’s, 16’s and 18’s division, started his high school tennis team (coach, player and driver), then went on to work at the first indoor facility in the area assisting the pro, stringing racquets and running club events as a teenager.
It’s been a life-long passion and job ever since. He’s been involved in every type of teaching aspect – juniors, young and middle aged adults, seniors and super seniors. He’s worked with beginner beginners to top professionals, all ages and abilities, at private clubs, 5 star resorts, subdivisions, parks and recreation facilities and currently at the beautiful Yavapai College tennis facility, which he also manages.
He’s been a USPTA Elite Tennis Professional for over 25 years, written a weekly tennis column in the Prescott Daily Courier covering local, state, southwest, national and world tennis news since 1993, helped start the Prescott Area Tennis Association in 1991 and dabbles in real estate – as well as being the father and grandfather to 4 kids and 11 grand kids.
At the age of 40 he re-entered the world of tournament play and the last two years been the #1 ranked player in singles and doubles in the Southwest section.
As a person who’s been around the block in the world of tennis, he’d love to help you with your tennis needs – lessons, clinics, racquet repair, encouragement, or just a discussion on how to get involved locally.
You can phone or text him at 928-642-6775 or shoot him an email at choward4541@gmail.com.
